Purpose

The Marriage & Family Intensive Care Program is designed to help married couples experience genuine healing and restoration both personally and as a couple/family. In no way does the Marriage & Family Intensive Care Program guarantee a specific positive outcome for the marriage or family. The purpose of Nouthetic Counseling is to provide the client or couple with spiritual truth and quality Christian mental healthcare to guide them in making wise decisions and help them develop healthier behaviors spiritually, emotionally, and relationally.

Goals

Through intensive focus and application of sound treatment modalities, the Marriage & Family Intensive Care Program will guide the couple in dealing forthrightly and thoroughly with core problems and pathologies that threaten to destroy the marriage. Treatment will target the following primary goals:

  1. Specific problems and issues based on the couple’s online survey.
  2. Specific problems are revealed in the Prepare and Enrich Marriage Survey.
  3. Eidetics and adult behavioral pathologies.
  4. Pathogenic ontology, i.e., what are the real core problems in the marriage.
  5. Pathogenic axiology, i.e., discovering and defining worth and value in each other.
  6. Faith and spiritual health.
  7. Integrated orthodoxy and orthopraxy.
  8. Communication, i.e., attunement, prolepsis, and outcomes.
  9. Problem-solving skills.
  10. Emotional intimacy.
  11. Romance and sexual intimacy.
  12. Encouragement and fun. A special event will be planned to guide the couple in rediscovering the value of laughter and fun.

Expenses

The couple will be responsible for expenses relating to travel, hotel, meals, and the Prepare & Enrich survey. Based on genuine financial need, some expenses may be paid by Christ Church of Central Arkansas. Please discuss financial concerns with Chris Perry. Chrisperry@discoverchristchurch.com

The Counseling and Mentoring Team

Individual and Marriage Intensive sessions will be staffed with selected staff.

Christian Ontological (reality & truth) and Axiological Assumptions (values & morality)

  1. According to Jane Anderson, after “nearly three decades of research evaluating the impact of family structure on the health and well-being of children demonstrates that children living with their married, biological parents consistently have better physical, emotional, and academic well-being. Pediatricians and society should promote the family structure that has the best chance of producing healthy children. The best scientific literature to date suggests that, with the exception of parents faced with unresolvable marital violence, children fare better when parents work at maintaining the marriage. Consequently, society should make every effort to support healthy marriages and to discourage married couples from divorcing.”[1]
  2. Ephesians 5:25-30, “25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, 26 so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27 that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless. 28 So husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself; 29 for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ also does the church, 30 because we are members of His body.”
  3. Titus 2: 3-5, “3 Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good, 4 so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, 5 to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored.”
