The 2024 passover season at Christ church

ASH WEDNESDAY: February 14, 2024

ASH WEDNESDAY AND LENT (a call to holiness).

Lent is from February 14 to March 28, and during this time Christ Church is called to reflect on faith, repentance, holiness, and what it means to live a life pleasing to God. The word Lent is from the Old English word lencten meaning springtime or spring. The term refers to the 40 day season of fasting and repentance in preparation for the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus.

Matthew 16:24-25, “24 Then Jesus said to His disciples,
“If anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Me. 25 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.”

Titus 2:11-14, “11 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all people, 12 instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously, and in a godly manner in the present age, 13 looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus, 14 who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, eager for good deeds.”

Maundy Thursday, March 28, 2024

MAUNDY THURSDAY (a call to service).

From the introduction:

What does the phrase Maundy Thursday mean? The word maundy is derived from the Old French word mande, which is akin to the Latin word mandatum or mandate. Simply stated, the word maundy means command. What new command is in view during the first Passover? The idea of a new commandment refers to the teaching Jesus gave His disciples in John 13:34, “I am giving you a new commandment,
that you love one another; just as I have loved you, that you also love one another.”

Candlelight passover, MARCH 29, 2024

(a call to submit to God’s

We will share in a Candlelight Passover, 6:00 PM at Christ Church based on the seder from Exodus 12. The term seder refers to order or sequence. Our Passover Seder will be simple. Jesus is our Passover Lamb! Please bring family and friends to join us for Candlelight Passover.

Resurrection Sunday, March 31, 2024

RESURRECTION SUNDAY (a call to worship).
We will worship Jesus, the First and the Last, and the living One; He was dead, and behold, He is alive forevermore, and He holds the keys of death and of Hades (Revelation 1:17b-18). Bring family and friends to Sunday morning worship, 10:00 AM with Dr. Justin Allison.
